An amazing true story is brought to life on the big screen in “Argo”. Ben Affleck directs and stars in this thriller that is set in 1979 during the Iranian revolution. The story begins at the U.S. Embassy in Iran. Islamist militants are protesting when they manage to break into the Embassy and take control. Once inside they take 52 Americans hostage, however six American's working in the Visa department are able to escape the Embassy. The six escapees are able to find shelter with the Canadian Ambassador who keeps them safe for sixty plus days until the CIA is brought in to help plan a rescue mission.
The CIA plan is lead by Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) who concocts a tale that only Hollywood would buy. He is going to visit Istanbul and wind up in Iran claiming to be a producer who is traveling with his Canadian film crew searching for a location for his new sci-fi film. Once he arrives in Iran and meets the Americans he must convince them to assume their roles as a film crew and become their secret identities and fly out of the country all within 48 hours.
His plan of escape is not something the American's immediately jump on. They are very hesitant and terrified that they will be caught and executed in a very public manner.
