How appropriate on Mickey's 75th birthday tour, he will visit the city where Walt Disney launched his career! When you visit the Country Club Plaza this summer and fall, look for Disney's world famous cartoon character: Mickey Mouse.
Fifteen statues of our hero, six feet tall, weighing 700 pounds each will be scattered around the Plaza from August 19th through October 21st in conjunction with Disney's 18-month-coast-to-coast tour commemorating the birthday of Mickey. He was born on November 18, 1928, with the release of Hollywood's first sound cartoon "Steamboat Willie" at the Colony Theater in New York. In the 75 years, Mickey starred in over 120 cartoons and feature films.
Walt Disney was only 26 years old when he created Mickey Mouse. He envisioned the mouse dressed in red velvet pants and named "Mortimer." He later shortened the name to Mickey. I stopped by and saw the statues which were breathtaking. Grab your camera and your kids and take advantage to this photo opportunity.
