Indiana Jones 4!!! And The Dvd Vhs Box Set

Reviewed on 2003-11-11
Indiana Jones has been in the news lately for two reasons: The newly released DVD four disc boxed set and the announcement of a new movie coming up "Indian Jones 4". Many people have been putting this DVD on their Christmas wish list. This long awaited DVD release includes one of the most comprehensive making-of documentaries ever. Hard-core fans will love it. The team at Lucas film dug up a huge range of behind-the scenes footage for 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." The two-hour documentary mixes footage of unique shots of our hero and director with interviews by a number of stars, co-stars etc. Lucas said he thought of the idea in the 1970's but set it aside to do "Star Wars."

The subject came up when Lucas mentioned it to Spielberg on a vacation to Hawaii, the same weekend "Star Wars" opened. He envisioned the star to be a flawed hero. Indy's not the superhero but more like a normal guy. He is not perfect or over-muscular, he's everyman, and that appeals to the audience. Tom Selleck had to pass on the lead role because his TV series "Magnum, P.I". was still shooting. Before Ford got the role, others considered included Tim Matheson and Peter Coyote. You can see a screen test in the new DVD with Selleck as Indiana and Sean Young as the female lead.

Even thought they called it quits after the 3rd one, the filmmakers now plan to shoot a fourth next year, with the film due out in 2005. 61-year-old Harrison Ford will again star as Indy.
