Fate dealt the Hollywood community a tragic loss yesterday afternoon. News spread quickly through the media alerting everyone of the untimely death of actor Heath Ledger, 28. Australian-born actor Heath, best known for his roles in the controversial Brokeback Mountain, Monster’s Ball, A Knight’s Tale, The Patriot, Lord’s of Dogtown and 10 Things I Hate About You. Heath had just completed filming for Batman – The Dark Knight, portraying the Joker in this latest installment. Heath had previous mentioned in interviews how troubled he was by portraying this character, a character so evil that had no empathy, so much so that he had trouble sleeping. The film is to be released this summer, one of his final projects, which I am sure will be as great, if not better than all of his previous work.
Heath had been previously nominated for an Oscar for his work in Brokeback Mountain, a high accomplishment for any twenty-eight year old. He was also the proud father of 2 year old Matilda Rose, a daughter he shared with fellow actor Michelle Williams. It has been reported that Michelle was in Sweden, with her daughter, working on a new film when news broke of Heath’s passing. Reports also state that Michelle is devastated by the news and is headed home with her daughter as of this morning.
A lot of people may not know who Heath was, and may ask you why you care so much what happened to him, and you did not really know him. My answer to that would be that this was a young incredibly talented man who left this World way too early. I think the main reason that there is such a huge response to this news, is that he was young. He is from this generation of talented actors and many young fans have watched his blooming work since 10 Things I Hate About You. I myself must admit, that when I saw him in this film I feel into a mad crush with Heath. I saw what true talent he had to offer and his adorable boyish looks made him even more appealing. And when I first heard yesterday of this event, all I could imagine was what a loss this would be to the entertainment industry and how many fans would be crushed. This was one talented man, who had a promising career ahead of him. He will truly and sadly be missed. R.I.P. Heath
