The Hoax a new drama opens April 13, 2007. The movie is set in 1972 and has flashbacks throughout. Richard Gere stars as Clifford Irving, a lost writer who miraculously claims to have a connection with the recluse millionaire Howard Hughes.

Irving fakes the writing of Howard Hughes “autobiography,” The film details the lengths he’s willing to go to in order to be believed. The movie runs around two hours. In my opinion the story only contains 30 minutes of material. There is some humor in the script, but not enough to be worth it. The movie had one basic action scene and could have made more of it, but didn’t. I found the movie is dull and boring throughout. Also, whoever chose what to show on the television previews gave away that action scene.

The producers tried to bring the movie up in ranks by having a strong supporting cast. Some of these include; Alfred Molina, Hope Davis, Marcia Gay Harden, and Stanley Tucci. The actors do a good job but can’t refresh the storyline be enough to have me watch it and not look at my watch every 15 minutes.

I saw a "children’s" movie later that week. I enjoyed that movie more. Frankly, I’m glad as a critic I didn’t have to pay. Don’t waste your time or money. Rating: one half star. (Only because I’m required.)
