The story starts in Pittsburgh 1969, with the soulful sounds of Motown coming from the jukebox in a restaurant. . The folks in Memphis Lee’s restaurant talk about the city’s plans to raze the diner for redevelopment. For most of their lives, he and his customer have gathered here, sharing their stories. Where will they go now? Two times Pulitzer Prize-winner August Wilson vividly portrays a humorous and heartfelt drama of lives in transition, evolving social awareness and spirits rising.
