Bonnie Franklin & Bruce Weitz star in an upbeat performance at Kansas City's premier dinner theatre: "The New Theatre Restaurant".

This new romantic comedy was written by Jerry Mayer and produced by Charles Abbott. It takes place mostly on a subway where 2 strangers meet in the early morning hours and seem to be the only two riding it in the 5:00 O'clock timeframe.

A crossword puzzle is the focal point that brings them together as they slowly build a relationship on this early morning jaunt. It is amazing how a subway car is used on the stage so realistic, you swear it was the real thing. Lights flash, doors open, the subway car even tilts and veers as it goes along. The play is witty and moves very fast. Before I knew it, the intermission was here and then far too early the end of the show.

Bonnie Franklin plays Janet, a very organized person who has just recently become single. Bruce Weitz is Josh, who has just escaped the confines of running his fathers button factory, being more of a free spirit. He is also divorced. Will these two become emotionally involved on this early morning subway ride? Could be? Check it out and you will be sure to enjoy a quality play.

In addition you are treated to a top- notch gourmet meal, complete with enough choices to please anyone's appetite. A mixed green salad with a choice of 2 dressings starts the meal. Then 4 choices of fish or meat await the hungry appetite. The Catfish was especially tempting and proved and excellent choice. Chicken, pork and beef were alternate choices. One of my favorite accompaniments is their house specialty polenta. Other choices included roasted potatoes, baked ziti, and Asian stir fired veggies. A great selection of desserts and drinks are also available for purchase.

The New Theatre Restaurant is located just west of Metcalf and north of 95th at 9229 Foster. Call 913-649-SHOW for more information.
